Facebook features

As you probably know, everyday developers are working extremely hard to release new Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn features to improve the social media experiences of their users. But do you ever feel like it’s hard to keep up with all the changes? Well fear not my friends, we are here to show some of the new features that Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn have been releasing lately that you may have missed out on!

In today’s articles we’re going to show you 18 things you can do on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn that you probably didn’t know you could do! Let’s get started!

Facebook Features

1) You can bookmark links to read later,

Hate the fact that your friends and co-workers on Facebook are always posting interesting articles or funny videos, but you don’t have time to stop to read or watch in the moment? Well now you can save anything on your newsfeed right from the Facebook interface. Just click on the little arrow in the top right corner and press “Save Link

2) You can engage your users by asking poll questions in groups and events.

Here is one of my favorite Facebook features. This is a great way to get feedback from your audience and give your brand some personality. For example, look how Starbucks uses these feature to engage with its audience:

Asking questions on FB is easy! Once you’re in a group or event, just go to the status bar and click on “Ask a question” To add multiple choice answer options click on “Add poll option.” Voila!

3) You can use keywords to search for old posts

Facebook’s search bar just got a whole lot more useful! Before, you were only able to search for names, groups, pages, etc. Now you can use what they call “Graph Search” to search for old News Feed posts as well with keywords like Alysa’s Hawaii trip pictures” or find posts on topics you’re interested in, no matter how old they are. Pretty cool, right?! When publishing content you can take advantage of this by including keywords in your posts, page title, and a link URL.

4) You can edit photos on the mobile app

Woohoo! Facebook now gives us the option of applying filters, cropping, and rotating a photo on mobile devices.  Just upload a pic from the mobile app and at the bottom there will be a bar with options for enhancing your pictures. Check it out:

5) You can change the order of the sections on your Business Page

If you want to visitors on your Business Page to presented with certain information first, try re-ordering the sections of content that appear on the left sidebar. For example, if you’re a restaurant you might want “Reviews” to show up above “Photos.”  Just put your mouse over one of the sections until you see the “pencil-icon” show up. Click on “Manage Sections”, and it will give you the option to re-order.

Twitter Features

1) You can find out who unfollowed you

Knowing who unfollowed you on Twitter can play an important role in your social media strategy. For example, if you see that multiple people unfollowed after you posted a certain tweet, you might need to change part of your content strategy. It can also help you figure out which content is more successful with your audience and during which times of the day it’s better post on Twitter. You can use Crowdfireapp to find out who stopped following you. To find out more about this topic check our article Who Unfollowed Me on Twitter.

2) You can autoplay GIFs by pinning them to your profile

Ever notice that GIFs do not automatically replay when you publish them in a tweet? Well here’s a trick for getting them to do just that. They will replay automatically if you “pin” the tweet to the top of your feed.

How? Tweet the GIF you want to show up automatically. Once it is tweeted, click on the three little dots at the bottom and go down and select “Pin to your profile page”. From then on, that tweet with the GIF will appear on the top of your profile and the GIF will run automatically until you decide to unpin it.

3) You can see your Twitter statistics for free

Twitter has now given users the opportunity to see statistical information about their tweets in a super simple way. This is a great way to follow your engagement history of each one of your posts on Twitter. Underneath your tweet, you can click on the statistics icon like in the picture below, or you can go straight to Twitter Analytics.

4) You can analyze your hashtags

Check out the tool Hashtest.io for finding out more information about hashtags and improve your Twitter Campaign. This app helps you find out the effectiveness of certain hashtags and their history. It’s also helpful for when you are trying to decide between two hashtags, to figure out which one is more appropriate for your audience and industry.

5) You can tag people in Twitter pictures

Saaweeet! So now, just like on Facebook and Instagram, Twitter lets you tag people in your pics. What’s great too is that it doesn’t count toward your 140 characters available, so tag away! All you have to do is click on “Who’s in this photo?” and you can tag up to 10 users. Just make sure that you are cautious who you tag and how often, you don’t want to overwhelm your followers.

LinkedIn Features

1) You can save job searches

One of the most useful features on LinkedIn is the fact that you can search for jobs. LinkedIn makes it easier with the option of saving searches. Keep track of which job titles you have searched for and LinkedIn will actually search again for you on daily, weekly, or monthly basis and email you the results. After performing a search, just look for “save search” in the upper right hand corner to set it up!

2) You can promote products with a Showcase page

Showcase pages are an extension of Company pages that allow businesses to direct niche-based content to a targeted community. They allow companies with multiple products, services, or events to have other pages dedicated to one part of their business and produce content for that specific set of followers. Creating a page is simple! From your Company Page just click “Edit” and then “Create Showcase Page” on the drop down menu to start setting it up. Check out this tutorial for more information.

3) You can stay up to date on professional news with Pulse

Pulse is an app developed by LinkedIn to help you stay informed with the most important professional news from your sector. This is a great way to discover what’s trending with millions professionals from your industry worldwide.

4) You can write hidden notes about your contacts

This little trick is great for when remembering details about the contacts you add on LinkedIn. It’s also very practical when you meet a lot of people at once at an event or conference for example. The plus side is that is that the notes you make are only visible to you. All you have to do is click on the contact and then underneath “Relationship”, click on “Note” and type away.
